The Small Mill Wind – village of Chateauneuf in Vendée

n the vestiges of a wooden mill, it was built in 1703. Michel Vrignaud, stemming from a millers’ long tradition will lead you, during the visit, accross the mécanism, but also on the ancestral tracks of the family memory, the stories connected to winds sometimes wrong but always bringing a new breath of life.

Have a break in the creperie of the mill pancakes (‘crèpes’) of which are made from the flour house while taking advantage of exhibitions then go off to explore the botanical path and the cereal garden.

Bois de Cené – Abbey of the Island Chauvet: unusual Vendée!

An abbey Benedictine of the XIIth century situated on an island in the middle of the swamp …
The Romanic church and its exceptional portal opens on the inner courtyard with the well.
The buildings of the convent and the abbey church underwent heavy damages during the Hundred Years’ War and during the religious wars of the XVIth century.
In 1680, the abbey is handed under construction.

Commequiers :

The vélorail: an unusual Stroll!

A leisure at the same time sports and cultural for all the family or between friends, travel(browse) 10 kilometers of rail connecting(binding) Commequiers with Coëx.
The concept is simple: a vehicle was towed in pedals, the track inspection railcar (kind of pedal boat or rosalie) on a railroad which is not any more in service at least we hope for it!
You will discover the back country of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, you will cross by saint Maixent’s former station and will cross ” La Vie “, the river.

The medieval castle: dive in the history of Vendée!

Fort of octagonal shape, it kept its 8 round towers.
It was built in the XVth and XVIth century by Louis of Beaumont.
The castle of Commequiers as most of those of Low Poitou was dismantled on order of Cardinal Richelieu in 1628, after the defeat of Soubise at Notre-Dame de Riez and saint Gilles.
We can see there exactly breaches practised in its walls.
It was belong by Trémoille one of the Protestant great lords.

La Barre de Monts: Ecomuséum le Daviaud

Nature escapade for all the family:
You will find yourselves throwna century ago in a real countyside farm in service on the biggest outdoor site of the West!
Discover how lived people of the swamp, “maraichins”, their everyday life, their housing environment, their activities in the farm.
Animals, workshops are interactive and adapted to the children. Donkeys, hens, ducks, sheep, but also the migratory birds which find a zone of ideal nesting there.

Apremont : The castle and the parc

Dominating the valley of La VIE river, it was built on a rocky headland in the XVIeme century during the Renaissance.
It is the Admiral of France, Philippe CHABOT DE BRION, friend of 1st Francois that orders the construction.
It replaces then the medieval fortress.

Visit YEU Island and Noirmoutier Island

Noirmoutier, an cute island, 30km to the campsite Le Ragis

… With the “Passage du Gois”,
Submersible road of 4,5 km, and its 9 refuges to the foolhardy persons who tried to pass in rising tide.
This unique passage by its length connects the island with Beauvoir in where you can fishing shells.
Be carefull, in the rising tide! You will have the information on the schedules of tide in the reception of your campsite Le Ragis!

You can also reach in the “Ile de Noirmoutier” by the bridge at La Barre de Monts.
You will have the privilege to visit a unique geologic site, representing the symbol and the pride of Noirmoutier native residents.
Gois was classified in the inventory of historic monuments since July 11th, 1942.

Having crossed le Gois, you can visit the island by bike and stop visiting the ports of fishing and sailing, and especially salterns.
Your favorite campsite recommends you to taste the flower of salt, top quality of the salt and rich in oligo-elements.
You can make stopover in Noirmoutier en l’ile, the city center to visit the Castle.
